The CRCST 400-hour experience split

The five buckets
HSPA breaks the 400 hours into decontamination (120), preparing and packaging instruments (120), sterilization and disinfection (120), storage and distribution (24), and quality assurance processes (16). The page says this split came from the job analysis: most of the work is hands-on, and the hours are the practical companion to the exam.
The hour buckets are not the same as the exam weights. Storage is a small slice of the hours and 9 percent of the exam. Quality processes are 16 hours and show up inside departmental considerations and sterilization documentation. Do not skip a section because the hour count looks small.

Common questions
Can hours be older than five years?
For the full-certification path, HSPA asks for 400 hours during the previous five years. Read the current handbook before you apply, because eligibility text can change.
